The history of Ch\u00e2teau de Pornic<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Ch\u00e2teau de Pornic<\/strong> is one of the town’s most important monuments. It has become the symbol of the town<\/strong>, attracting many tourists<\/strong> throughout the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ch\u00e2teau de Pornic dates back to the 10th century<\/strong>. At the time, it was made of wood and protected the entrance to Pornic<\/strong>. It wasn’t until the 18th century that the ch\u00e2teau became a stone castle. At the time, it belonged to Gilles de Rais, Joan of Arc’s comrade-in-arms, who never wished to reside there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the 18th century, the ch\u00e2teau fell into disrepair. It wasn’t until the 19th century that the ch\u00e2teau was bought out and became a home for its new owner, Joseph Lebreton. However, without Fran\u00e7ois Bougouin’s work, the ch\u00e2teau would not look the way it does today. This architect from Nantes decided to modernize the ch\u00e2teau and turn it into the Ch\u00e2teau de Pornic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ch\u00e2teau de Pornic is now listed on the Inventaire Suppl\u00e9mentaire des Monuments Historiques. As a result, it has become private. However, it can be visited from time to time thanks to guided tours organized by Pornic Tourist Office and the Ch\u00e2teau’s current owner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to visit the Ch\u00e2teau de Pornic<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Visits are possible but not every day<\/strong> of the year. In fact, the Ch\u00e2teau de Pornic can be rented out for company seminars<\/strong> or film shoots<\/strong>. So make sure in advance, on the website or by calling the Tourist Office in Pornic<\/a>, that you can visit it during your stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
