It is in VIIe sciècle that a castle of wood with the confluence of the rivers of High Pole appears, Debt and of Cracaud, it ensured the Middle Ages the defense of the port. With Xe century, Alain II of Brittany, Duke of Brittany in fact a fortified town, it is then occupied by a garrison which protects the entry from Pornic.
In XIe century, it is the property of the lords of Rays which rebuild it out of stone.

Primitive castle of wood it remains nothing any more, during the various rebuildings of XIIe in XIVe sciècle appear ditches with a drawbridge with the current site of the fixed bridge.
Then to the XVIIIe century, it belongs to the Marquis de Tightening Brie whose goods are confiscated during the French revolution, the castle fall then ruins some before being restored fine XIXe century by the architect François Bougoüin to have his current aspect in the pure style Purple-the-Duke.
The castle is worth visiting today at the time of the annual days of the inheritance. |
